Triumph Speed Triple 955i (2000)

Purchased new from Metropolis Motorcycles London in 2000 for £8000.

Still got it today and still rides good.

Without doubt one of my favorite bikes of all time.

It's not the quickest, but it's quick enough with about 120bhp and can do just about everything you need it to, from commute to sporty ride-out.

Mine was fitted with the factory option high-level exhaust which has a great tone from the triple engine.

Also fitted the single seat pod and a rhencullen colour coded undertray at the back to stop all the muck getting up underneath the bike.

So what's it like to own and ride...

Like I say, this one has been one of my all time favourites and even today, after over 25 years of ownership, it's still a great bike to go out on.

The looks of the bike are iconic as is the sound of that triple engine. With a torque of 100Nm it pulls from very low down and all the way up. It may have only 110-116bhp (depending on which source you look at) but it's all useable and the bike remains unnerved and well balanced whatever speeds you're doing.

It's also proven to be ultra reliable, so far anyway, it's coverd around 13k in 25 years with minimal issues.

Back in 2000 it had it's first at the dealership and since then I've done the usual yearly checkover, fluids and filters etc. I know Triumph services through main dealers has been expensive for years but luckily not had to fork out on that, especially as the nearest dealer is 20+ miles away.

The bike has a factory fitted alarm which does seem to draw a bit of power from the bike and this coupled with bike having always been one several bikes I've own concurrently so doesn't not get used as regularly as some, leads to battery issues. It's caused batteries to fail prematurely, especially in the early years. But I've discovered using Motobatts lessons the problem and they usually last around 4 years.

I've only had to change the C&S once at 12k and that was due to age rather than wear.

I had an issue with one of the fuel tank/pump connectors which was a cheap fix but a bit of a faff to do.

Fork seals have needed to be replaced once.
